Typing.COM - Honing Our Keyboarding Skills

Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect. -- Vince Lombardi

#1. Intermediate - Typing.com
There is always more room for practice. Great piano musicians, don't stop at greatness, they practice. Football teams that are made up of the best players in the world, still practice. The same is true for BUSINESS SKILLS, practice. Keyboarding is a skill that although useful right now today -- may not even be practiced in the future. It just may be a SKILL that is no longer needed as technology continues to advance.

My goal is to help get you ready for ALL possibilities of the FUTURE and for right now; that includes KEYBOARDING -- SO, we are going to practice.

You should have set up an account on the website TYPING.COM earlier in class. You should also have started the beginner portion of the STUDENT LESSONS (just for practice). Now it is time to get into it!

1. Create a POST in your NEW 2nd Semester Blog
     a. Title the POST: "Typing.Com - Common English Words"
     b. You will create a new post for every Intermediate Lesson

2. Open the website Typing.com (click on this link)

3. Select the INTERMEDIATE LESSONS

4. Begin at LESSON 1 - "Common English Words"
     a. In your POST record the results of each of the 19 lessons
     b. EXAMPLE:
Lesson 1: 3 Stars; 57wpm; 98% Accuracy; :10 time; Y problem key

Lesson 2: 3 Stars; 55wpm; 97% Accuracy; :15 time; L, S problem key
Lesson 3: 2 Stars; 52wpm; 92% Accuracy; :13 time; W, Q problem key
Lesson 4: 2 Stars; 61wpm; 91% Accuracy; :12 time; Y, H, P problem key
all the way through to lesson 19
Lesson 19: 1 Stars; 52wpm; 88% Accuracy; :20 time; U, K problem key

5. At the end of each LESSON (1 through 19) You will take a timed typing test, you can chose either 1 minute, 3 minutes, or 5, minutes.
6. At the end of your TIMED TEST you will get a page that show your test results. PRINT SCREEN your results. CROP out all of the page except your results, SAVE your results as a JPG file, and upload that picture to your POST for that lesson.
7. In the end you will have a total of 11 POSTS in your 2nd Semester Blog.

This lesson will have BLOG POSTS 1 through 11 in your NEW 2nd Semester Blog for Computer Science. Each POST will have the same title as the lesson from the INTERMEDIATE section of lessons in Typing.Com.

Welcome Back to School Computer scientists!
It is good to be back and to get started once again. You hare now half of the way through with your 6th grade year of school--you are also half way through with all of your pre-college education! That is exciting!

My goal is to help get you ready for ALL of that FUTURE education. Part of getting ready is also how well you engage with technology and some of the applications and systems that you will experience in your future education. It is TIME to move on!
Here at North Star Charter School we are dedicated to offering our students every opportunity to explore both areas of advanced study and areas of potential career opportunities. This course is designed to offer this exploration into the many aspects of computer implementation in business, personal finance, Art, broadcasting, gaming, and animation.
